What Every Tourist Must Know
A clear, reliable, and up-to-date guide to help tourists and foreign pilots fly legally in Thailand. This page explains the required registrations, insurance, arrival conditions, safety rules, and how to request flight approval through the CAAT UAS Portal.

Legal Requirements for All Drone Operators in Thailand
Every drone with a camera—regardless of weight—must comply with three authorities:

• Pilot registration
• Drone (UAV) registration
• Flight approvals via UAS Portal
• Aviation safety compliance
Insurance (Mandatory Under CAAT)
• Minimum 1M THB third-party liability
• Valid for 1 year
• Required before CAAT approval
NBTC (National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission)
• Radio-controller registration (2.4 GHz / 5.8 GHz)
• Equipment authorization
• Penalties for unlicensed controllers

Before Every Flight in Thailand (Mandatory UAS Portal App Use)
Before each and every drone flight in Thailand, all foreign and local pilots must complete these steps to stay fully compliant with CAAT regulations:
-
Submit a quick flight request via the CAAT UAS Portal (iOS/Android)
– Submission takes under 1 minute for normal (non-restricted) areas
– Approval is issued instantly outside No-Fly Zones
-
Confirm your location is not inside a No-Fly Zone (NFZ)
– Airports, military areas, royal sites, some public events, and sensitive zones
– Flying inside an NFZ without special approval is illegal
-
If inside an NFZ, request extra permission
– Additional approvals required from RTAF, RTN, or National Park authorities
– Processing times may take 5–14 days
-
Keep your documents available on your phone
– CAAT license
– UAV registration
– NBTC controller registration
– Drone insurance e-policy
These checks must be performed before each flight, regardless of drone weight or purpose.
