Why NBTC Registration Is Mandatory

NBTC registration is required under Thai telecommunications law for any drone or remote controller that transmits radio signals in Thailand. This registration ensures compliance with national radio frequency regulations and prevents interference with aviation, emergency, and public communication systems.

Important:

NBTC registration covers radio transmission compliance only. It does not grant flight permission. Drone operators must separately comply with CAAT registration and flight permission requirements before operating a drone in Thailand.

• Required for all drone controllers used in Thailand

• Part of Thailand’s national telecommunications regulation

• Must be completed before applying for CAAT flight permissions

• Avoid penalties, confiscation, or denial of flight approvals

• Ensures your RC is legally traceable during operations

Warning:

Using an unregistered controller in Thailand may result in legal penalties and flight-permission rejection across all zones (general zones, NZF, and VTD).

Mini FAQ — NBTC Registration

Q: Can I register NBTC before landing in Thailand?
A: No. NBTC registration requires your immigration arrival stamp. Without it, the system will not accept your application.

Q: Why do I need a Thai SIM card for NBTC registration?
A: NBTC sends a Thai-only OTP SMS to verify your identity. Foreign numbers do not receive NBTC OTP messages.

Q: What if my remote controller has no serial number or unreadable QR code?
A: You must upload a clear screenshot of the DJI serial number page or firmware update page showing the controller’s SN.
Serial numbers from the box are not accepted.

Q: Does NBTC require drone insurance?
A: No. NBTC does not require insurance.
Insurance is required only for CAAT UAV registration and flight permissions.

Q: How long is NBTC registration valid?
A: Temporary NBTC approval is valid until your immigration stamp expires. When you leave Thailand, it automatically becomes invalid.

Q: When must I register?
A: NBTC requires submission within 30 days of entering Thailand.

Q: How long does NBTC processing take?
A: Normally 1–2 business days after receiving complete and correct documents.

Q: What are the penalties for using an unregistered controller in Thailand?

Using an unregistered controller may lead to NBTC penalties, including administrative fines and possible confiscation of the equipment.

You may also be denied all flight permissions (general zones, NZF, and VTD areas).
