All drones with cameras must be registered with CAAT and NBTC, whether they weigh more or less than 250 grams—no exceptions!

This applies to both private hobby and commercial use. Additionally, having a pilot license from abroad holds no validity with CAAT. All operators must meet Thailand's specific certification and registration requirements to fly legally. - CAAT

To legally fly a drone in Thailand:

1. CAAT (Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand):

All drones with cameras must be registered with CAAT, along with liability insurance coverage of 1 million THB. After passing the pilot exam, you’ll receive a Pilot ID instantly, and the drone must display its ID number.

2. NBTC (National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission):

Drones with radio control systems must be registered with NBTC within 30 days of purchase or bringing it into the country. The registration remains valid until the drone is taken out of the country.

Operating a drone in Thailand without proper registration can lead to serious penalties:

  • CAAT: Up to 1 year imprisonment, fines up to 40,000 THB, or both. Violating specific conditions? That’s an additional 50,000 THB fine.

  • NBTC: Unauthorized use of telecom equipment (like drones) may result in 5 years imprisonment, fines up to 100,000 THB, or both.

Why risk ruining your holiday with legal trouble? Let us handle the process for you. With our fast-track services, you can enjoy Thailand stress-free and fully compliant with the law!

1. Enhanced Pilot Certification Requirements

To register your drone, you must pass a rigorous pilot competency test covering various essential topics. The test must be completed within 30 minutes, and you need to correctly answer at least 30 out of 40 questions to pass. If you fail, you must wait 24 hours before attempting the test again.

   5 Exam Topics:

1.1 Thailand Air Law for UAV
1.2 Thailand Airspace Regulations
1.3 Human Performance in Drone Operation
1.4 General UAV Knowledge for Use in Thailand
1.5 UAV Operation Procedures

These strict requirements ensure compliance with Thailand’s unique standards, which are often more demanding than those in other countries.

Note: Pilot licenses from abroad are not accepted—all operators must take the CAAT exam to become certified.

2. Mandatory Drone Identification Requirements

All drones must display a valid Drone ID number at all times. This ensures instant accountability during inspections by local authorities anywhere in Thailand.
Failure to comply can result in fines or even confiscation of your equipment.

3. Real-Time Registration Verification

Operators must maintain their registration details in a real-time verification system, ensuring immediate accessibility for Thai authorities. This adds an extra layer of complexity to compliance.
